Bilevel vs. Passive Equalizers for Second Life EV Batteries

نویسندگان

چکیده

Once lithium-ion batteries degrade to below about 80% of their original capacity, they are no longer considered satisfactory for electric vehicles (EVs), but still adequate second-life energy storage applications. However, once this level is reached, capacity fade increases at a much faster rate, and the spread between cell capacities becomes wider. If passive equalizer (PEQ) from EV used, battery remains equal that worst in stack, just like it was EV. Unfortunately, eventually weaker than average, other cells not fully utilized. operated while use, an active (AEQ) can increase higher value close AEQs more expensive cost effective. be shown bilevel (BEQ), PEQ/AEQ hybrid, also provide very average lower AEQ.

Unbiased MMSE vs. Biased MMSE Equalizers

We systematically analyze the biased and unbiased minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizers of finite as well as infinite length, with and without decision feedback sections. New closed-form expressions of optimum equalizer weights, the MMSE, and symbol error probabilities (SEP), solely in terms of channel response parameters and noise power, are derived for the above receivers. These new exp...

Power vs. Performance Tradeoos for Reduced Resolution Adaptive Equalizers

| Adaptive channel equalization algorithms are commonly used in wireless communications receivers to counter intersymbol interference, multi-path dispersion, and other time varying channel degradations. In this paper we obtain approximate expressions for the increase in mean square error of the LMS adaptive algorithm when the total processing power is decreased by reducing the number of data an...

A Second Life for Electric Vehicle Batteries: Answering Questions on Battery Degradation and Value

Battery second use-putting used plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) batteries into secondary service following their automotive tenure-has been proposed as a means to decrease the cost of PEVs while providing low cost energy storage to other fields (e.g., electric utility markets). To understand the value of used automotive batteries, however, we must first answer several key questions related to ba...

Active vs Passive Training for Educational Software

Computer-based instructional interventions are increasingly popular in classroom curricula. For students to benefit from these interventions, it is vital that they are properly trained to use the software. We investigate the effects of using active versus passive training techniques to familiarize users with a graphical programming environment, Alice. We examine the impact using measures of kno...
